Brought up by composer and broadcaster Peter Paul Nash, Dody trained intensively in ballet from the age of 6. An injury led to a change in direction and she became a pupil of the English metaphysical painter, Cecil Collins. After Foundation at Central Saint Martin’s, working at the Tate Gallery at weekends, she studied English/History of Art (1st Class BA Hons, York) during which she produced the plays of her contemporary Simon Stephens at the Edinburgh Fringe. She then worked for a time at the Saatchi Collection and studied theatre design at Motley Theatre Design Course. Her professional training was as ENO assistant to international opera designers.

Dody is recognised by the international design press for the Listening Shell sound sculpture. Commissioned by the South Bank Centre and fabricated by DuPont, it was exhibited at the Royal Festival Hall, V&A, 100% Design (London) and Designer Days (Paris). Dody subsequently worked with DuPont to further develop designs to demonstrate their material technology.

As Visiting Practitioner, she has taught MA Performance at Queen Mary’s, University of London, and currently lectures for MA Innovation Design at CSM University of the Arts. She has led projects for ROH, ENO, Opera North, Glyndebourne and structured projects for the Royal Designers for Industry’s summer school.
